Aside | Summer Reading Extravaganza Day 2: Summer Reading for Children

Day two of the Summer Reading Extravaganza and the girls want some recommendations for kids books:

Yesterday we talked about what we would be reading, but what will your kids be reading? You definitely want them to use some of this free time they have on books! We need suggestions for all age groups! If you don’t have kids, you can still share some of your favorite books from when you were kids, that you read to your grandkids, or your nieces and nephews. Today is the time to talk about books for kids from age 0-18!

Now I don’t have kids myself – but I do love to buy books for my friend’s two little boys – Ivan is just nine months and Henry is two and a half – so this is a great excuse to browse Amazon for some more ideas :)

The first book I spotted has no less than eighteen 5 star reviews – now you don’t see that every day! It’s called Giraffes Can’t Dance – it’s written in rhyming verse and teaches children that appearances can be deceptive. This should be a perfect gift for little Ivan.

Now Henry is a big castle fan – he loves to visit old castle ruins and run around shouting Twang! as he fires arrows through the castle ‘windows’. With that in mind I think he’d love these books: In the Castle and See Inside Castles -  which take you inside a castle and explain what it was like to live in one (and his daddy would enjoy it too!)

Can you recommend any other great books for my favourite boys? Post in the comments below – and then be sure to check out the other posts in today’s extravaganza.

I don’t have kids of my own, either, but I remember a few books that my little sister absolutely adored: Goodnight Moon, Love You Forever (to this day, it still makes me cry), Where the Wild Things Are, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I also like Jon Scieszka (The Stinky Cheese Man, Math Curse, and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs), but I don’t know how much a two-and-a-half-year-old would like him. :)
