Description
Twelve-year-old Alice Winston is growing up fast on her father’s run-down horse ranch – coping with the death of a classmate and the absence of her older sister (who ran off with a rodeo cowboy), trying to understand her depressed and bedridden mother, and attempting to earn the love and admiration of her reticent, weary father.

I read some great reviews about this book back in the early part of the year and was intrigued enough to buy myself a copy.
The Book Review
The God of Animals by Aryn Kyle takes the reader on an intimate journey through Alice Winston’s family life. As a twelve year old girl, Alice is a loner trying hard to find her place in the world. With her mother withdrawn from the world and her father focused on resurrecting their run-down business, Alice finds herself caught up in a dangerous friendship as she spins herself a fantasy family and tries to fit in.
In her powerful debut novel, Kyle takes a frank look at families and relationships, secrets and the unspoken as Alice is forced to really see and understand the events that have shaped her family and how one simple act can have devastating effects and change their world forever.
This is a fantastic book and would be an excellent choice for any book group.
