5 stars – an action packed finale to the Twilight saga
Description
Twilight tempted the imagination. New Moon made readers thirsty for more. Eclipse turned the saga into a worldwide phenomenon. And now, the book that everyone has been waiting for…. Breaking Dawn, the final book in the #1 bestselling Twilight Saga, will take your breath away.
The Book Review Being a week behind most die hard Twilight fans I avoided any reviews before reading Breaking Dawn – though I’d heard runours that there was uproar in the ‘community’. Personally I really enjoyed the final installment in the saga – at 754 pages its a bit of a brick, and I think it works best read in as few sittings as possible – but it’s definitely worth a read. Of course all our favourite characters return, including Bella, Edward – and of course the trusty Jacob – but we are also treated to a whole host of new characters.
Breaking Dawn starts out with the fabulous wedding between Bella and Edward – and then takes the reader on a roller coaster ride, full of twists and turns, with a bit of blood and gore and romance thrown in for good measure. Well I say ‘a bit’ – actually there’s a lot. If you are squeamish when it comes to blood then you might want to avoid a good section of this book – it’s definitely the most graphic of Meyer’s novels when it comes to the ‘blood shock factor’. And the romance angle can get a little steamy at times – though nothing that should be too shocking for the YA reader – its more inference than explicit.
I’ve read some of the negative reviews since finishing the book – and yes I agree, Meyer had two choices for the ending and she could have chosen differently – but it worked. And there seems to be the same old complaints about Bella willing to change herself to suit her perfect boyfriend and how this isn’t a good role model for teenage girls – which once again I understand – but don’t let it put you off. Meyer has pulled out all of the stops with Breaking Dawn and I think it really is an excellent read.

I loved this book, too. I thought it was surprisingly bloody! Actually, the other day I watched a video with Stephenie Meyer where she talked about how originally THE bloody scene (I would guess you know what I’m talking about) was a lot more disturbing and her editors had her cut a few things out, haha. She said she was surprised she could write something that would would be considered disturbing or scary, hehe.

I liked it too! I’m off to the virtual book club for some uncensored, spoiler-ridden discussion.

@Faith – she wrote it more bloody?? Wow! It was turning my stomach as it was – I’m glad they edited it.
@Jessica – you posted some great points in the discussion – thanks for sharing.
@Cindy – I’m off to read your review!
i think its alright i dont think any nasty things get on as there are moderators on every screen that watch you so if you are thinking about giving your children a membership do so money well spent!
The story itself progresses at speed. There’s hardly any downtime and the characters ricochet from one event to the next. This gives the book a breathless residential drug rehab quality that is exaggerated by the short chapters. Most of the action takes place at night.
I love this book and I had borrowed it from a friend originally, but then decided I wanted my own copy as I know I will read it over and over again! Never thought I would get into it when I first heard about it, but now I'm obsessed!
