Holy Autism / Daniel Forant

Review Date: February 22, 2010
Reviewer: Sisyphus,
Daniel Forant's book Holy Autism was one of the most difficult chaotic reads I have encountered. Like the saying goes anyone can pick up a pen and write, but not anyone can be a writer. This book is filled with incoherent sentence ramblings, chaotic structure and fractured thoughts, as if each sentence were attempting to stand alone as an individual thought not able to interchange with any other sentence. The writing style is amateurish and disjointed leaving the reader second-guessing what is happening. There is little if any character building throughout the entire story, which also leaves the reader wondering most of the time who the character(s) actually are, where the character(s) are going and, what the character(s) personalities are or what they look like or how they are related.

The book is fractured and written mostly in simple sentence format. There are very few complex or compound sentences to take the reader to an advanced level of reading. The reader is left struggling to make sense of a book that makes no sense. From the opening page the scene is set in a war zone and the reader is thrown into the thralls of action not knowing or understanding what is going on (there is no background coverage anywhere explaining to the reader what or why things are happening). Another awkward aspect of the book is, not understanding how the characters arrived at any location or how they suddenly changed locations.

While the main character expresses her desire to locate a missing child, there is never any explanation of how that child is taken nor does the book ever take the reader to the missing child's first hand experiences. The book is so fractured that the reader frequently gets lost wondering which character is actually speaking.

If an individual is looking for a book that difficult to follow with embedded sentences in paragraphs that make no sense, this is the book to read. Little thought went into the process of plot direction or completion or formation, which left this reader wondering where Mr. Forant came up with his ideas of the swastika representation. I also question the "Primordial and based on [much] truth...read it before your next prayer...read it before you die..." caption on the back of the book. There is nothing factual in this book and no quotes from any source of reliable person(s) of religion or history. The only truths based in this book stem from the misconstrued delusions of Mr. Forant.

As for the review given on the actual book jacket by Vincent Zandri, depicting this book as better writing than Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, I suggest that Vincent Zandri has no clue of what good writing is, and I would seriously question his writing abilities.
Fast Moving Soul Slasher

Interesting premise and interesting plot. Effectively dramatized to give the impression of a fast-moving event. You sure have a lot of concepts crammed in, which I like. "If life were any indicator, I'd say God had a soft spot for His most prized angel, banished Lucifer." is quite a memorable line an intriguing concept. I have not read "The Da Vinci Code" or seen the film. Organized religion is a plentiful subject matter for conspiracy-themed fiction, as well as historical fiction. It was exciting and cinematic, packed with action and minus extraneous elements. As the character indicates, her Jewish captor probably already knew of the other meanings of the symbol. So, why would she want to convince him of the goodness of the symbol? Because the symbol mostly means Nazism, the story promotes nazism by promoting the symbol sympathetically?

The character being an Irish female seemed like a nice touch. It's easier for me as the reader to feel a favorable prejudice to a female character, though harder to identify with. An Irish sleuth seems like a good choice to investigate the secrets of the bible. I have much experience with the Irish and I know the relationship many have with the Church, which may be different from other Catholic ethnic groups. The child as savant is an interesting plot device as well as touching on an important issue--autism--that doesn't get a lot of coverage in the media. To suggest that God is taking Israel away from the Jews doesn't seem to fit the reality of Israel. The detail that the Jewish captor's mother was liberated by Soviets, as opposed to Americans did not escape me. Highly recommended. My copy was as an ebook off [...] as I read off my laptop. Dad prefers here Amazon.
