It's hard to make your mark in an ever changing world. It seems like every time I hear something about jobs any more, it's because they are going out of business. It's harder than ever to make your mark and guarantee your position. There are some fields that will never go away because of high demand. There are some careers that will be in demand no matter what the economy brings. These jobs include:
* Health Care
* Biotechnology
* Energy
* Education
* Government
* Security
* Information Technology
It's important to remember that the career you choose now will affect your future. Why not go for something stable?
I really liked the tone of this book. It contained a huge amount of information without sounding like a textbook. |
A Timely Self-Help Guide For Finding Employment

Although finished in 2009 when the unemployment situation was better than it is
now, this book is still very timely. It's hitting the market at just the right moment as far as a help guide is concerned. It is packed with helpful information that will help the unemployed find a new job and hopefully, give them hope that there will be a job for them. As the writer points out, the reader only has to find one job--the job for them.
"Here's the hard truth that a lot of people don't want to face. A lot of jobs that were lost won't be coming back." It's going to take a decade for the economy to create enough new jobs to reach the previous level of employment in 2009.
"The problem for all job seekers in this climate is that the old rules of job hunting and career management no longer apply. In today's market, you either adjust to the new reality or get left behind."
"This book can help you take back your control over your life...The way to take control is to go where the growth is...You just need to know where to look." This volume "will show you what those fields are, and break down the industries and roles in a clear, down-to-earth way for workers looking to embark on the next part of their career. At the back of the book, you'll find an appendix that will act as your one-stop guide to career resources for each of the industries we'll be covering."
The nine industries where there will be job growth are covered in nine chapters. They are: "Health Care, Biotechnology, Education, Green Energy, Government, Security, Information Technology, Entrepreneurship and Dow Busters." Each of these chapters is broken down into subchapters for different facets of employment. Dow Busters are those mostly non-government industries that are recession proof and continue to grow and hire no matter how far the Dow drops. They are the essential jobs in our economy. They include accounting, customer service, dental hygiene, engineering, finance, firefighting, insurance, law, attorneys, paralegals, social work, and veterinary medicine. All those jobs are service, not manufacturing jobs.
"The recession is forcing a seismic shift from a manufacturing-based economy to a service-based economy one, most of the jobs that were lost aren't coming back, and, boy is that a hard truth for workers to swallow. Manufacturing jobs have been moved off shore because of the high cost of labor, taxes and doing business in the USA. They won't be coming back and the sooner people realize that and start retraining themselves to handle the jobs in the service economy that need to be done at a local level, the sooner they will find employment. People will also need to be willing to move to where the good jobs are located.
As this reviewer read this guidebook to finding a job, I was glad I was retired and not having to face the current employment problem. Today's job market is a whole different world than the one I grew up in. Hopefully, this volume will provide some helpful advice for those just entering the job market. If nothing else, it has some encouraging advice. While it won't provide all the answers, it will provide the job seeker with some good tips on where to start looking and how to go about it.

| Joe Watson has delivered an essential guide to finding more stable and rewarding work in these tough times. Growth-industry by growth-industry, he lays out the facts and offers words of encouragement that make finding that better job seem doable. Each industry overview has an appendix with resources to get the ball rolling. The personal accounts of workers who have successfully made the transition from declining to rising industries, often by just transferring existing skill sets, were also helpful. The chapter on becoming an entrepreneur was a real eye-opener because it seems counter-intuitive in a recession, but makes sense. Anyone trying to get back to work or struggling in a dead-end job needs to read this book! |

The book "Where the Jobs are Now" by Joe Watson, is a really informative book that is great whether you are looking at entering the job Market for the first time, changing careers, or curious about the fastest growing industries. It goes into depth over where the jobs are now giving statistics and percentages. The back of the book is full of great websites regarding scholarships, businesses, and other career-focused websites.
Now I know for some people it may be too late to change careers or change their education focus, but this book really points people in the right direction using great points and reasons. It is really trying to help people find a long and lucrative career, that will be around for a while! There are even chapters on Entrepreneurship and Recession-Proof Jobs. The author is actually a CEO of Without Excuses, which is a professional development company and has been featured on many television shows (including The Today Show, CBS Early Show, CNN, FOX News, and PBS.)

| This is a time of change and Watson's book is clearly dedicated to helping his readers make that change as they search for employment. . This book offers not only where the jobs are now but the fastest growing industries ,how to look for a job, where to look, how to reevaluate your job experience to date , an appendix which gives fantastic grant and Scholarship information , websites, etc. Once you pick up " Where the jobs are now" you will not want to put it down. A chapter on entrepreneurship is well done and a must read ! This book is full of current information, encouraging, motivating, easy to read and gives hope which is so desperately needed in our global economy today!. |
