I haven't read Coraline, but my boyfriend is an artist in the Comic book industry (works for DC). I loved Maus and Blankets and The Plain Janes (meant for teenage girls to read). Another one of my personal favorites? Astronauts of The Future. It was awesome. =0)

One thing that I've noticed about graphic novels is that those adapted from books always seem to fall short of those that were originally designed to be graphic novels.

I read the original version of Coraline - and it was fantastic.

If you want to try a completely different type of graphic novel, I would recommend Maus to Art Spiegelman or Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi.
