Sunday Salon | Between Books

Nineteen Minutes

Hello Saloners – come in, pull up a chair, we’re having a lazy afternoon with reading and football watching :)

I missed our date last week as I went to visit my parents for an overnight stay, and while I enjoyed seeing them I missed our little book chat!

This week I’ve been slogging my way through R.J. Ellory’s A Quiet Belief in Angels – I say slogging, because it started out an intriguing and enjoyable read, and then went downhill in the middle. I’m glad to report that having just spent a few hours finishing it off it came good in the end! Click on the book’s title back there to see the review I just posted – and if you disagree with what I thought be sure to post in the comments.

I did mean to write a review of my reading at the end of March as some of you have done, but time ran away with me and it seems a bit late now – I’ll be sure to start that task at the end of April! I have just updated my reading list though, and it seems that at 15 weeks into 2008 I have read 18 books; which puts me on track to complete my 50 book challenge. I am certainly reading much more than I have in recent years and can usually crack a book in less than a week, but some – like Angels – take a bit longer!

I’m not getting far on my Spring Reading Thing list – as despite alphabetising my TBR and vowing to read them in that order I seem to still be sneaking in new ones *blush*. First there was Mockingbird, and now I have just got my hands on the long-awaited paperback of Picoult’s Nineteen Minutes. After battling my way through Angels I am going to reward myself with that one, as the Ps are still an awful long way off *lol*.

Well that’s me done for today, I’m going to head over to catch up with some other Saloners, and then spend some time with my other hobby – digital scrapbooking.

Happy Reading – see y’all next Sunday.

Hello fellow saloners – I wasn’t sure I’d actually be able to post today – I updated my websites last night to WordPress 2.5 and managed to break them… so today, instead of working through my to do list, catching up with saloners, and reading my latest book I’ve spent about 7 hours trying to [...]

Sunday Salon | Body Surfing by Anita Shreve

Sunday afternoons are made for reading – especially on a day like today when the weather is dark and dreary and all you want to do is curl up on the sofa with a good book. I’ve spent quite a lot of Sunday afternoons this way this winter – it’s been so dark and depressing.Today [...]

Hi Linda – I can see how that book would have been hard to read as a High School teacher – I’m really enjoying the book so far – I like Picoult’s writing style and the way she covers off such sensitive issues.

Thanks for visiting my blog. It’s fun getting to know new people.

I totally agree with you about your favorite Picoult. My sister’s Keeper is my all time favorite of hers. I bawled like a baby! I found the chapters about Jesse especially moving.

I just finished Nineteen Minutes a couple weeks ago and loved it but it was hard to read especially since I am a high school teacher! Scary!

I installed a new plugin called commentluv that links back to your site in the comments if you have an RSS feed – and every comment that had the link in ended up in moderation! Might have to tinker with that :)

    @Literary Feline – thanks for visiting :)

@Ravenous Reader- as with all Picoult’s books its a difficult subject – but I am enjoying it and think she is covering the issues well so far.

@Trish – that isn’t actually my cover and I don’t actually like it! *lol* I’m playing with Zemanta and it got that image from wikipedia – my cover is quite nice – a kind of out of focus boy and a jar with a butterfly in. It’s the UK paperback version.

@Danica – *blush* I could never do the real scrapbooking stuff – looked like a 5 year old had a tantrum ;) Digital is much more me!

OH MY GOD how cute is that digital scrapbooking stuff? I was skeptical at first but this is adorable! the only sad part is no cute 3-d stickers!

@Kristen – I think I’ve read pretty much all of hers to date and have only been disappointed by one (can’t remember which!) I’m glad this is your favourite as I have high hopes for it! So far I have loved My Sister’s Keeper the best – if you’ve not read it yet go get a copy :)

@J. Kaye – thanks for stopping by – always good to have a Jody P in your TBR – although mine don’t stay there long *lol* Glad you enjoyed my scrapbooking *blush*
