Stephenie Meyer has written a substantial draft of Midnight Sun (about 260 pages) – and somehow it has been leaked on the Internet. Here’s what Meyer had to say over on her blog:
“I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published. I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being. As the author of the Twilight Saga, I control the copyright and it is up to the owner of the copyright to decide when the books should be made public; this is the same for musicians and filmmakers. Just because someone buys a book or movie or song, or gets a download off the Internet, doesn’t mean that they own the right to reproduce and distribute it. Unfortunately, with the Internet, it is easy for people to obtain and share items that do not legally belong to them. No matter how this is done, it is still dishonest. This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control.”
Meyer is imploring fans not to read the incomplete Midnight Sun draft – as it is not in the form she wanted it to be read in. But to save fans from tracking down an illegal copy she has decided to make it available herself.
Midnight Sun Draft Leak – was it a set up?
I’m really not sure what to make of this – when I first heard about it I felt sorry for Meyer, when an author puts her heart and soul into writing a book it’s awful for it to be pirated. Other people have a slightly different point of view though. Over at Maw’s blog people are suggesting this is some sort of conspiracy theory – that Meyer was concerned about fan’s reactions following the less than positive response to Breaking Dawn, and wanted to ‘test the waters’ before expending too much time and effort on Midnight Sun.
I’d love to know what you think. Is this just another nail in the coffin for internet piracy, or a clever piece of marketing? Did you come across the ‘illegal’ Midnight Sun draft? Did you read it then – will you read it now? Post in the comments below and let me know your thoughts.

Omg I Can Not Tell You How Much I love The Twilight Series Ive Read The Books So Far And Watched The Films That Have Come Out Including Eclipse But I Am Dying To Read Midnight Sun And Really Hopin That It Becomes Film Like The Rest Of Them And I Cant Believe Anyone Would Do That To Stephenie Meyer Its Dis-Respectful xxx
I love the twilight series! Stephenie Meyer truely does have a gift for writing! I also have never really been much of a reader, but yet I have read the ENTIRE twilight series 4 times!! I also own both twilight and new moon on dvd. Not that they are even remotely comparable; the books being the better “obviously”.
I have only read the first chapter of THE MIDNIGHT SUN draft and i too cannot wait until the actual book is released. Everytime i reach the last page of breaking dawn and i see the words, THE END i feel the need to start all over again. I hope the saga will continue because for edward and bella there will never be an end!
its now 2010 and still no full version of midnight sun, please someone tell me when or if it is ever going to be published, its driving me crazy. edwards perspective would make the saga complete.
I am sorry to hear what has happened. I read the draft on her website and I was really hopig that she would finish it. I have never finished a book in my life until Twilight sorry to say well not really. I loved the books and I really hope she changes her mind and does this as I would read it, and just about everyone I know that has read the first set would read it as well. I read the first 4 books in 8 days for someone that has never finished a book before I think that says a lot about her and her writing, and I would read the book if she finished it. I am also glad to see they will be doing the forth movie for the forth book, I was so happy to see that.
i think that was a HUGE ripoff because people should be able to respect other people’s privacy because it’s THIER buisness and i guessing that if stephenie meyer finds out who did that, she is defintly SUING!!!!!!( lol)

I am a big fan of the series so it would be great to read the last book
I’ve been waiting long enough for Midnight Sun to be published…the wait is killing me!!! I personally think it’s far better than Twilight since it was written from Edward’s perspective and written from a vampire’s point of view. And who doesn’t want to know what’s going on in Edward’s mind?!?…With Edward’s version, we get to know the other characters more and much better–with his mind-reading gift! I personally think that the saga is more of Edward rather than Bella…There were a lot of instances that I can hate Bella especially in Eclipse—hurting Edward over and over again, but was there anything not to love about Edward?!…hahaha…Yes, I am guilty reading the draft but I couldn’t deny that I was smiling all the time reading it…I so love Edward and I must say I fell in love with him all the more after reading the draft of Midnight Sun…It’s really insane but it’s like I know him so well that even in my dreams I can see him…haha…His version is far entertaining than Bella. I feel sorry about what happened with Midnight Sun but just like everybody else, I’m so disappointed at Meyer…I really hope she would finish and publish it…I would be looking forward also to Edward’s version of New Moon…I missed him so much in New Moon…And I am dying to read what happened to him during his absence and what was going on in his mind and I also can hardly wait to read what Edward has to say when he proposed to Bella and showed the ring, what he was thinking during their wedding, honeymoon, Bella’s pregnancy and transformation and of course, on what he thinks and actually feels every time he kisses Bella with all the restraints and the self-control stuffs! Hahaha…I’ve read the saga the 7th times already (except for Eclipse that I just read 5x because it breaks my heart to read Edward’s pain over and over again) and every time I read it, same emotions as the first time—I smile, laugh and cry over and over again…I love most Twilight and Breaking Dawn but I think I would love Midnight Sun more. But I have real personal attachment to New Moon because I’m personally living Bella’s pain and in fact, it’s even worse–the agony and pain is beyond words…Anyhow, I’m posting my comment hopeful to add more voice to Meyer’s fans in persuading her to finish the book. For 5 years, I’ve been personally living hell here on earth. I’ve been reading a lot of spiritual books and it does somehow help me. I have long past reading romance books 5 years ago, but this, the Twilight Saga, it stunned me….it’s addictive! I’ve read the books a couple of times to the point of almost memorizing their lines…I love the saga-it has been the best escape from my “hellish” reality. Every spare time I have, I spend it rereading the books. It is how addicted I am! So please Meyer, finish it…I’m sure there are many others out there that you have helped so much in one way or another without you knowing it. I feel bad to what happened to you, but really, don’t punish all your loyal fans for someone’s mistake. Your feelings are not going unnoticed but please take your reader’s feelings into consideration. It’s unfair to us as much as it is unfair to you with you officially posting the unfinished draft in your website. We also feel betrayed that you left us in the air!
By the way, I hate the scene in eclipse when Jacob kissed Bella…it really wasn’t right. I am sorry that you had it come out like that. I do wish people wouldn’t do that. If something like that happened to me I would get the same feeling that you did. No matter how long someone has been writing we would still all feel the same type of emotions.

Stephanie Meyer does have one special gift doesn’t she? I love her writing and I read it as often as I can. Breaking Dawn was so happy. So many of those books made me cry and I even found myself cackling at some of the funny things one of the characters say. If she were to write Midnight Sun everyone in my family would buy it, even some of my closest friends…….even my mom. She would read them so long she wound up with a nagging neck pain. Well yeah, after all of that I would say that she is very talented.
Does anybody know how to get a printable version of the draft of Midnight Sun? The draft on Stephanie Meyer`s website can`t be printed as far as I could see. I want to print it out so I can take it with me and read when I have no access to internet. Does anybody know how????

Malinda, I agree with you so much. I would love to read the draft but I believe it would make me just as guilty if I did before it became the book that Stephanie wanted it to be.
I am 64 and I have read all the books a dozen times al-ready and I am not ready to give them up yet. I know that they are written for the younger people, but also for the young at heart!!!!!!!!
I feel soooooo sad that something like this had to happen to the writer, Stephanie, and I hope whom ever is responsible for this leak out , before it was ready to be read and the disrespect so many people have like this.
I hope and pray that Stephanie will resume writing this last book for her genuine, sad feeling fans who have be come the losers in all this mess. I hope that Stephanie will have an epifanie to see the rest of the book and give her True fans the rest of her story of Edwards point of view soon. j
I know it was terribly wrong for whomever leaked it to the internet before it was completed. It only shows a person who your “friends” really are in these situations like this. For this breech of confidence I don’t blame her for being very disappointed I would be too. But in his or her wrong doing, All the rest of her fans are the losers and I would so like to finish the books with Edward’s point of view. I too have read the series, so far, at least 10 times. I love them. My whole family is enjoying these wonderful books and have a difficult time putting them down.
I am just so sad for Stephanie right now and I would so love to read the draft that is here, but I will not because it would not be right, right now. I want to wait for the whole book to come to her fans as she wants to tell it.
So please Stephanie, if you read these blogs of your real fans out there, please, take a deep breath and please find it in your heart not to let the many loyal fans you do have down; Please, Please don’t let them idiots stop you, from letting all of us who are waiting for this book, and finish it you really are such a wonderful talent. First of all, I love your books. I read them like more that 4 times. I also seen the movie for Twilight. Even though it was amazing, I still the book is way better than the movie. I think that you should continue to write midnight sun. Forget about the idiot who put your book on the internet. Finish what you started.
Think about your fans. All of them want more and when they heard you aren’t going to finish the rest of midnight sun they were heartbroken. You made all the readers fall i love with this story and especially the characters.

Edward’s love for Bella is obvious but painful throughout the series. it has been a joy for many fans to experience this in fantasy rather than real life. the complication of events only made Edward’s love stronger and more committed to protecting Bella from the harsh world we live in today. it makes me sad not to see Edward’s point of view because his role is most important. if u ask me, the true fans of the twilight saga should not be punished for someones mistake in piracy of midnight sun. please Stephenie, if u r as great an author as your fans see u as, u would not let one obstacle tarnish the road of publication of midnight sun! i understand that u wish to “hold indefinitely’ , and ur feelings are not going unnoticed but please take your reader’s feelings in consideration. trust the fans! we wont let u down

I am 33 yrs old, and the mother of 3! I first watched the Twilight movie, and everybody was reading the books, and they all told me that I would like the book even better because it was more detailed! So I just had to read them. I am at the end of Breaking Dawn, and I am sad to come to the end of the series! So I am begging u to please publish Midnight Sun! I so want to read Edwards point of view, even though he probably went through so much more pain than Bella could ever know! Words cannot describe how much I have fallen in love with the Twilight series! I never knew a person could express so much love on paper! U truly have blown me away with ur talent, and if I had that much talent, I sure wouldn’t let one bad seed ruin it 4 everyone! They will get their just reward in the end! the twlight books are amazing and the love that you have for writing your wonderful stories is like the love that edward and bella share. in new moon when edward left bella, all she saw was her world come tumbling down and just wanted to die. well, the IDIOT who leaked your story out wasnt thinking of the consequences and u have to consider that. Edward came back, so when the time is right you should continue working on Midnight Sun. edward cant die so neither can your books. Please hear all your fans out. It’s a real shame to fans like me if Stephenie Meyer wouldn’t continue writing Midnight Sun. Like her, I want something to place beside Twilight in my little bookshelf. I’m dead sure that lots of people, young and old alike would want to read this exciting tale from Edward Cullen’s point of view. It will be very exciting than Bella Swan’s because Edward feels something more than the usual. So Mrs. Meyer if you have the chance to read this comment of mine, you will see that lots of people here in the Philippines are also looking forward to this. It was amazing! It may be my favorite so far, and it’s only half way done! Please know that all of your fans back you up, no matter what you decide to do. It would be a shame to let such a great book go unwritten. Don’t let that jerk that leaked the book get to you. You have a talent that you can not give up on. I believe you should just take some time off of writing Midnight Sun and finish it in a while. But please do finish it. Your fans need this book, I am dying not knowing what he thinks next!!

i never ever read books until the twilight saga…… i took a look at the TWILIGHT book and said no way i am NOT going to read that huge thing lol…. then when the movie came out i kept on hearing obsession of it over and over again so then i finally broke down and watched the movie. it was great!!!! it officially became my favorite movie ever made then i kept hearing how the book is so much better and i said how can the book be better if the movie was AMAZING????? i thought, “how can anything be better than that?” so i had to read it…. a few days later i read the book…. IT WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER READ IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then i read the following books, new moon, eclipse, and breaking dawn. i cried so hard after i finished the series it wasnt funny at all. even though my mom got a kick out of it. but i didnt want it to end i wanted there to be a fifth one. Then when i heard there IS a fifth one i happy cried ha ha ha no joke….. then i read your site and when you said you werent going to make it i was soooooo upset. I really wish you would make it. do it for your fans!!!!! it would makes us so happy i read the draft you posted and it was great! you really need to write it. it will be superior

Well I read “Midnight Sun” and it was so awsome only it wasn’t finished. I love the Twlight Saga and I would love “Midnight Sun” too. I think that even though it was leak Stephanie should continue her story. Even if people have read the first 12 chapters (drafted) I think many will buy and still love reading the book. I think now would be a perfect time to release “Midnight Sun” and not wait until people has cooled down about it. If you start even the draft of this book, you feel like you’re reading “Twlight” over again and you really don’t want to stop until the end. So please Stephanie Meyer should really, really finish “Midnight Sun” Already the first 12 chapters are so good!!..
I have read all of Meyer’s books and loved them all. I can’t believe that someone would do this without her consent. I read on her page a couple of days after her post, and had to agree with her decisions on what to do afterword. If I were in her place right now, I probably would do the same thing. I love her books and can’t wait to read Midnight Sun, when it is published and at the book store.

After reading ALL of the books in the Twilight Saga, I felt that it wasnt enough. The happily ever after ending just left me wanting more of Edward. It is very upsetting what has happened with the leak, But as a “Twilight fan” & a 53 year old person, I read the draft ” Midnight Sun” and of course I loved it. It would be unfair to your fans if you did not continue with the unfinished novel. I have read all 4 books 3 times now, and that is not a norm for a person as myself. wow i think that breaking dawn was great…why wouldn’t it be? if it ended the way STEPHENIE wanted it to, then in my eyes it was a great book. First of all, I hadn’t read a book in about 3 years, before I was finally convinced by my sister to read Twilight. I am SOOO glad that she made me read it. Then, of course, I was consumed by the story and could not get enough. I was infatuated, and that led to having read all four books multiple times. I am 32 years old and I have become intwined in a saga meant for young adults. That is how good this series is. And I don’t know why everyone is saying that Breaking Dawn was a disappointment. I loved that book, and it had many twists and turns that I did not expect at all. It really kept my attention. Needless to say, all the books are TERRIFIC!!!
I have not read the draft of Midnight Sun. I am hoping, WITH ALL MY HEART, that the wonder that is Stephenie Meyer, will continue to write it and have it published as soon as she has her peace of mind about the horrible betrayal that has happened. It would be devastating to all the fans if Midnight Sun is never published. I think that Edward is much more intuitive, and I believe it will be so astounding to have the story told from his point of view. I hope that once the book is published, if it is, that she will continue writing, and have the rest of the series told from Edward’s point of view. I know that I will be waiting in line to buy it.

i read twilight ever since i saw half of our class was reading it. and since then, i never stopped reading the whole saga for 6 staight days… i can say, you are a great author. i really felt each character’s position in the 4 novels… like:
BELLA’S: how hard it is to choose from a person i’m used of being with[JACOB] and a dream[edward].
EDWARD’S: how difficult it is to keep on protecting the person you loved from mistakes you keep on making your own..
JACOB’S: how frustrating it is to give up the person you loved and loved you back to someone whom she wishes to be with forever.
Charlie’s: how difficult it is for one’s father to let go of a daughter someday… and give the responsibility of taking care of her to someone who someday put her in danger.
Billy’s: how hard it is to see one’s son leave because of a girl he really cared about.. (its like choosing your desires over family)

I don’t know what’s happening!!! My whole world has become a ‘Twilight’ absorption. I can’t understand this obsession. I am not a tweeny, I am 56 years old and I have a bachelor degree in Social Work. I have the psychology, socialogy and social work courses and I am trying to get a grasp on this, I don’t know what to call it…, an obsession, an absorption, I don’t know. I love the books, the movie, the sound track and everyone involved – the entire Twilight persona. Midnight Sun is a very important part of this series as it gives Edward and the Cullens a depth/dimension that we don’t get from the other books. We gain insight into how they are affected by Bella’s and Edward’s relationship. We gain a deeper/stronger level of understanding in the depth of emotions that Edward is experiencing. I have had many experiences in my life but I have never experienced anything so all consuming as my travels into this emotionally packed saga. Breaking Dawn was my favourite. It held me captive with stories of a wedding, a birth, rebirth, confrontation, morals, ethics, dishonesty, power lust, family cohesion, community cohesion, loyalty, love, compassion, openmindness, and so much more. I hope that Stephanie is able to overcome her sense/feelings of betrayal and disappointment and focus on the completion of Midnight Sun. She has started it and it is alive and waiting for her to tell her story and put it to completion. That way we all can expell a sigh of relief and feel joy for having shared this experience with her.

Yes, it was a horrible thing for someone to do, I agree on that, but still… I can’t speak for anyone but myself but reading Stephenie’s books is like opening up a new dimension… an awesome dimension that you get lost in until you put the book down (which is exceedingly difficult).

I am bummed that she might not publish this book. I haven’t read the illegal copy because I am hoping that she will go ahead and publish it. I loved Twilight and it is killing me to not read Edward’s version before it is published. But I think it is important to wait and want her to be rewarded for her work. I enjoyed the view from Edward’s point of view as much, if not more than Bella’s. Hope you finish the novel. I hope the screenwriter and directer for the next movie realize that the viewers want more of the emotional intimacy found in the books put to film. Meyers is Mormon, I know, but the books were full of intimate romance without the sex that held the reader captive with every sentence. I think the next movie should try to hold true to that fact. I won’t buy a ticket to a third movie made so thoughtlessly.

I have been on her site I’ve finished the published series so far and think there ausome. When I heard her book was piarated I thought it was horibble I like to write my own little books somtimes. So I know that it takes lots of effort and time. But to imagine that happening is horrible impossible when she takes the time to write it, I feel discusted by the thought of this happening and as I much anntisipate the next book Stephenie Meyer IS intitle to wait as long as she likes before she pulishes it (if she publishes it). please can you continue writing the last book!!!?! i am absolutely dying here, i love the twilight series and i finished all them in a week. i just started rereading twilight with the first chapter of midnight sun and i cant wait to read them both together when youve finished midnight sun. so PLEASE finish it so all your fans can finally get edwards thoughts and words, did i mention that im dying without it??
I agree one hundred percent. I hope that she finishes it. I adore Twilight and the whole saga. I can not believe that someone would betray her like that. It was obviously someone she knows because as for as I know, the letter CLEARLY states that she only gave copies to people she trusted with something so important to her. Even though I would never let anyone read my unpublished work my self, I don’t think that it was fully her own fault because if somebody close to her would go and back stab her like that they are most likely very good liars and I don’t think that a parasite like that should live on this earth or anywhere else! Seriously if the person who did that is reading this, you are a horrid, rude, selfish loser. Even if you did it for the fans, you should have thought twice about Stephenie, who seems to me like she is a very good friend to you if she would trust you with her writing and you betrayed her.

I refuse to read the incomplete version I am going to wait until it is published. I am almost sure that she will finish it. I hope so. Edward is the most interesting character and I hope she doesn’t let her fans down and wait too long before people just don’t care anymore and there is another author that is hot and fans are too annoyed with her that they won’t even purchase it. This is the risk Stephanie is facing and she is sitting on a gold mine right now. Please keep writing about this family.
I’ve read the whole series more than once, first I hear about people not liking the ending, how else could it possibly have gone….. it was a happy ever after ending. As for the Edward story, if every writer stopped writing a book just because of a leak there’d be a lot less books around for us to read. She must finish it I can’t wait to read it to the very end!!

I read all 4 books in a week, it took me a week b/c me and the girls at work were sharing the last 3, or i would have had them done sooner. I thought all of them were great and suspenseful. We should all e-mail her to give her our support to finish the book, b/c I can’t stare at a computer screen for hours it will give me a migrain, and I really need that book lol

I personally love all of the books in the twilight saga; and when I found out that there was to be a fifth book I was REALLY looking forward to its release. While I can understand how/why Meyer would want to indefinitely postponed midnight sun; I for one really really really hope that she changes her mind and finishes the book and has it published. cause even with the draft not being what she wanted it to be it was still incredible. I absolutely loved it and wished that there was more to be read.

I am a reader who at first wasn’t into twilight but when i read it i couldn’t stop. i feel that Stephanie may do as she likes but it will make me sad if shes does not continue Midnight Sun. If i could tell Stephanie Meyer some things this is what i would say, ” I read that you made this book for ‘fun’. That it called to you. That you had DREAMS about what Edward would say. If you were thinking about it so much why stop? You are not a quieter, I believe that you can finish. As a commenter said There are so many fans/people who care and feel bad about what happened and we will back you up. All you have to do is keep going and the fans will do the rest.” I am a young writer. I love to write books and the one that i am currently writing is Gesibelle’s Story that is not the official name but oh well. And what people wouldn’t know that my inspiration was not from the twilight series but from Stephanie Meyer. Maybe she will read this if she does i encourage her to go on. If she is reading this i say be like Edward. Find the strength to do something impossible. For him it was to be a monster but not be a monster all at the same time, to find a way to be better person. For stephanie i say find the strength to finish something you thought impossible. I have learned that nothing is impossible just what you think is. Keep going!

I love love love Edward, his family, Bella (sometimes) and the whole Twilight saga but i really don’t see what all the shit hitting the fan is for?? It’s not like it’s a NEW book,it’s just a book that’s already been written and read by SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many of us (cos we love it!!) but from Edward’s perspective!!!! So there’s not much to add in terms of new action/details but more of Edward’s emotional turmoil and later peace @ meeting and loving Bella?? It is basically finished so why dosent she just finish it instead of giving up right at the end.She’s done all this hard work and eventhough it got leaked she shouldnt just give up.Its like a saying “you try you fail, you try you fail but the real failure is when you stop trying”.

I am a HUGE twilight fan and i have read all 4 books, when i was reading them they were all i could think about and nothing else and when i finished them i was really upset i was almost crying! Then i heard about Midnight Sun and I was so excited and I think I speak for a lot of people when i say that it would be a real dissapointment if Midnight Sun dosent get published. Stephanie Meyer is probably every girls favourite author and I really think she would show great perserverance and inspire all her fans if she finished the last book.

I’m really not a big twilight fan, but they help me imaginate stories of my own. I also should say that the 1st chapter is very creative and I wish I new what happened next, please continue.

I am in love with the whole series
They are the best books i have read by miles. I dont understand why people including Stephenie Meyer think that Breaking Dawn was a disappointment, because I absolutely loved it – maybe except for the Jacob part; it was a bit longer than I would have wanted it to be and also the fact that Jacob annoys me so much it made it even more annoying to read.
However I do think that it should not have ended like that, instead Stephenie Meyer should have carried on her next book on their life as a family, and perhaps Nessie’s life and the new boy Nahuel’s – would they get together?
What will happen with jacob?
Will Rosalie be happy enough with being Nessie’s ‘aunty’ or does she crave for more…?
When does the volturi come back?
Does demetri track down all of the Cullens’ friends so that when they finally get to the Cullens, they are no longer anxious as all of the Cullens’ witnesses and gifted fighters were no longer there?
- Or,
Will the volturi finally fall from their power, and if so, does that make the Cullens the centre of peace in this mystical world?…
Further more, who will be lost in the battle if there even is one in the first place?
Will Edward be burned to ashes?
If so, would Bella really kill herself or get herself killed, or will she consider the fact that Nessie needs her?
Or will she think that Nessie will be well enough to survive with Jacob and Nahuel, and (if there are any) the remaining vampires from the Cullen family…
Who knows?
It is all up to Stephenie Meyer… I am sure she will impress most of us. However, I do hope that she will be finishing Midnight Sun as I think it is brilliant even though it takes us to the beginning and possibly a dead end…
I hate that people think the reason why Stephenie is hesitant to finish Midnight Sun is because she was betrayed. It isn’t just about that. As an artist it is hard to get back that spark to continue when your work has been exposed before it’s time. It’s not something we can turn on and off, it’s a mood, it’s a state of mind and personally I’d rather she didn’t continue to write it till her mind is free of purged thoughts- due to someone leaking her book. Otherwise the book may not come out the way we hope, it may not be all it’s potential if she isn’t in the right mind frame and feels that spark again. You have no idea how hard it is to continue something after a leak has happened, it’s disheartening as an artist/writer, it takes a lot of the initial passion away. I hope she does finish the book, I am personally a huge fan of the Twilight saga and I would love to read Edward’s perspective. And, I wont be reading the leak… Well actually, to be honest I will try very hard not to read the leak in respect from Stephenie as a writer- though it is very tempting.
I hope this helps some of you gain perspective on why she is hesitant to continue writing the book and that it really isn’t just about being betrayed.

Personally, I enjoyed Breaking Dawn. I didn’t enjoy as much as I thought I would though. I found it to be a pleasant read (though not as good as Twilight). I also enjoyed reading the first couple chapters of Midnight Sun. I speak for myself and about a thousand or so other girls and boys at my school when I say that it is so much btter than Bella’s version. Edward seems to be a deeper individual. To say that we will be disappointed if Midnight Sun isn’t completed would be an understatement. To tell you how much I love the Twilight saga, I read Twilight in three days, New Moon and Eclipse both started and finished in the same 24 hr period and Breaking Dawn in a day…we would really appreciate if you’d finish…and soon, lol! I’m french, and of course in love with the Twilight saga (I wouldn’t be here otherwise LOL).
I know Twilight (which is called “Hésitation” in french (Hesitation as you might have guessed it)) for about 2 weeks now, and I am depressed because I know I won’t find someone half how Edward is. XD But this is not the point here.
Anyway, a friend of mine told me about Midnight Sun, saying that it was Twilight written in Edward’s point of view. My heart fell right to my feet. I needed to read it (asyou might see, it is not because it was written in English and not available in french that I would not read it =)). I started by reading Stephenie Meyer’s letter and then I felt really really bad for her. I understood that it was her closest friends who did that (the one who she gave the first approach of Midnight Sun), and I just so did not understand. Why would your friends, or colleagues do that? What was their interest. I then read in your article that people were saying that it only was a piece of marketing. It might be true, but I don’t believe it. For me what is the most important for an author is finally to be published. I don’t think Mrs Meyer is the kind of people who only live for money. I think she just doesn’t care if people do not like Midnight Sun, she first wrote it for herself. It is like a betrayal made by her own fans. What is really amazing in reading a saga, is that you have to wait for several days before knowing what happens next. This is the adrenaline when you eventually have the book in your hands, because when you feel on your knees, you feel Edward, you feel Bella, you feel Jacob, and all the others. On you virtual page on the net, it’s just breaking the intimacy that I so love in the Twilight series.

does anyone know where i can get a copy so i can print out? i don’t want to print out for anything illegal, only to read. want to be able to take it with me to read no acess to internet at home. i feel bad for meyer, i mean to have worked so hard on something and to have it released like that. and it’s not like she can change it too much, it has to go with twilight.
Midnight Sun was very good and well written. I have read all 12 chapters. Now I’m hanging and I want to know what happens next.
The story should continue what Jacob and Nessie. Just to see how they manage to blend in with humans.
I went onto Stephenie’s website for the partial version of “Midnight Sun” and to be perfectly honest I believe that it was a pirated act. The rough draft is exciting and absolutely worth BUYING when it comes out in print ( if it ever does thanks to someone). It’s true that a writer puts their heart and soul into THEIR creations and to have it taken from them, is inexcusable. Stephenie Meyer should have had the right to wait til she FELT IT WAS THE RIGHT TIME to publish the book.
Stephenie, I’m begging you,PLEASE, finishing writing the book so it can come out in print and I can buy it. It means as much to me as “twilight” does.

Ok… This was stupid. I do feel sorry that her work got leaked out but when you give anyone the work you have to think there is a chance for things to go wrong.
I found that all the books had something in them that just made me mad at the characters. This does not mean I didn’t like them or would not read the next. People in real life make me mad and I still talk with them. At no point would I believe that this is a ploy for hub bub… That marketing was not needed. Anyone would love to read the book from another point of view if they were already into the books.
I did not read the extended draft of Midnight Sun, but I am going to read it now that it is on her site. I think that the draft that she has on there will be fine…. Even if she finished the book people would still go out and buy it. The mistakes in the drafts would not make a difference. Besides… her other books have a lot of flaws as well. In reality I believe that she needs to get a thicker skin in order to be in the art world. Nothing will go has she plans and not everyone is going to love her work. There will always be those who laugh at and hate what she does.
Get over it and do what you feel; it makes the best work. Start over and think about being true to the characters you created; Even if that means ending. The books that are out there are great. Form one artist to another. The movie was okay but was not true to the pages you wrote… a good first try. (will not buy unless the second makes the first.)
I look forward to seeing more work from this writer. I would like to see more work from her that is different than what she had already done. What she has done feels all to be the same. The Host is very similar. However, maybe that is all she has… they are good stories and an interesting insight about what she thinks. The way she writes women/girls are interesting and sometimes upsetting.
The work any artist does tells a lot about the person and it is sad that there are those out there that feel they can get away with stealing and placing it out there. Life happens and that part of you that went into the work is still there, and no matter what that work of art is it also becomes a part of those who chose to love or hate it.
i also wanted to add to my previous comment that i would love to see the rest of the books from edwards point of view. especially new moon. Hello, I hope this finds everyone doing well. Me unfortunately im not doing so well. I have to admit i can see how curiosity killed the cat, it probably drove him completely mad. I got a little curious after seeing all this hype over midnight sun. So i started to research everything i could find on it. Not really looking with the intention of reading the draft just looking to see if there was any hope that i would have another of Stephenies wonderful creations to fill even more of my head with. When i saw that she was making the draft public to avoid confusion, well i just couldnt stop myself. I feel that this is a completely unfair and ignorant thing that has happened to her. I dont understand how someone could take such a wonder masterpiece from such a gifted artist as herself and turn it into something so wrong. I do agree with her way of thinking i mean who can blame her, But one thing that has crossed my mind is what would i do if this happened to me. Well i thought this over for a while after i set for 9 hours reading the draft on this site. Would i feel so violated that what the masses wanted couldnt sway me to give in. Would i punish my true fans for the actions of a few? I really dont think that i would. I just set her wide awake all night reading this and i am deeply saddened to the point of physical illness to think that i may never get to see the rest of it. If this draft wasnt at her best then this would will be absolutely addictive just as all her books are. I dont see what they are saying about breaking dawn i thought it was good the only complaint is that it ended to soon. I mean What happened afterward with Jacob and Renesmee . How did Bella Take to her new life once it was free of the threat of the volturi. What happened after the few years passed and the volturi decided to check back in with the cullens about renesmee. I mean there is so much potential there for so many more stories, But who am i to question the thinking behind not going further. I guess i am looking at it the same way that i did when the last harry potter book came out. Reguardless I read the draft and i think that it is truely sad what happened but even though i have read book 1 twilight several times finishing it for the 7th time just 2 days ago i want to go back and reread it. I feel that this book will create an even greater draw to twilight if that were even possible. Now that i have some insight into the inner workings of edward it makes me in even greater awe of him. I mean he already had me lookin at my humanly ideal husband of 10 years with disguist that he couldnt be anything close to edward. If this book had anything negative about it it would be increasing the worlds devorice rate due to spousal inadaquacy. LOL. But maybe im just as addicted as everyone arounf me, who knows. I am just praying for my own selfish reason like my sanity for instance that this book will be out ASAP. Knowing that i am hoping in vain for that truely is a crushing blow comparable only to losing the object of ones undying affections forever. It really is painful to think about. I just hope that maybe this will make it into Stephenies hands and help to persuade her to rethink this and finish the book. I promise the world will be a better place for it. I understand a lesson is what she is trying to teach us but like i said before is it fair to punish the many for the actions of a few. I loved the whole series and the draft of midnight sun. I can’t wait to read the book . It feels like forever before it will come out, and personally i think that this new book is going to go off the charts . Everyone loves edward and i hope that Stephenie Meyer pulishes the book as soon as possible. I don’t know what it is about this series ,but i have a feelin that this will be one of the biggest things of all year, besides the fact that the movie twilight came out , by the way i thought it was a pretty good movie besides the diffrences.

I think that Stephenie Meyer is being a huge baby. All that she’s doing is hurting herself in her misery because she’s not making money. Geez. I read the draft, and it was probably one of the most best things I’ve ever read. JK Rowling had stuff like this happen and she still continued. In fact, I think I like Rowling better then Meyer now as an author. I will continue to hope that she will publish Midnight Sun though, and also maybe write New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn from his perspective too. That would be awesome.
I read the first chapter draft thing of Mid Night Sun, and it was really good along with her four other amazing books. I really think she should write a fifth book cause what happens when Nessie grows up. And do the Volturi come back. There is a lot of un answered questions i have about the ending. All the other books have been great why not make another book that people will enjoy.

wow! i just read the first chapter of midnight sun, and i feel the intensity that i felt the first time i finished Twlight. These books are amazing and I can’t wait for the whole book to come out. I understand why Stephanie feels betrayed but these books are too amazing to be kept in a lap top, please publish soon. I’m trying to respect the author by not searching for the second chapter but I feel like Edward resisting Bella’s blood in this effort. I don’t know how much longer I can hold out. No matter what I will once again buy/barrow every single book in the series, but the SOONER THE BETTER!!!

I am so dissapointed that Stephanie has chosen to not finish writing Midnight Sun. My name is Krista, I am 11 years old but a fluent reader. The Twilight Series has been some of my favorite books and I hope she changes her mind and publishes Midnight Sun. My friends really dislike reading, and would rather be doing something, like shopping, but suprisingly, the Twilight Series is something, like me, they’re hooked on. I know it sounds really nerdy for 6th grade girls to start a book club, and trust me were not nerds, but we started a book club, and we enjoy getting together to share thoughts about the book. I hope she just writes the freaking thing, so my friends can stop lolling over make-up crap and keep reading.
Maybe Stephenie should stop being stubborn and write the damn novel. Who cares if people like it or not. Shes not going to be a JK Rowling, shes not going to become a billionaire, but she still will get some money off of it. It’s the day of the information era, her fault for lending it out unfinished. She is a writer, who is doing this for all the wrong reasons. She didn’t want the book to get out before it was done because she wanted to present the best to her fans. Oh wow, it’s out, now shes not going to continue writing it! What about the fans then? Instead she publishes on her website, so they can all get a taste of it? It’s all about the greed. I am dredfully sorry about what happened. You must be devastated. I understand what you mean about writing with mood, i would also not write midnight sun if that happened. By the way i am 12 years old and am your loyal fan. Even though you must be so sad and shocked, please start writing again. I know that your fans are getting more impatient by the moment, but you should also take your time. It is true that that person was not so kind to do that.
To read twilight only took me a day, and also with new moon, and eclipse and breaking dawn. So you should know that i am so addicted that i could quote any of your boks with 99% accuracy. I also write with my mood, and did wonder what could possibly be going through Edward’s mind when he met Bella.

I really like what little i read of mignight sun. I really am really sad that someone took advantage of stephanie and posted her book because i know everyone wants to finish it, but it is not about the readers it is about the writer and we need to stop beging her to write and think about her feelings. She wants to forget about what happened and move on and it is not helping that people keep talking about it and nothing is helping the book come out any faster it is just delaying the book. I hope everyone starts thinking about the writers feelings instead of ours cuz we can only be there for her.

i am a HUGE fan of the twilight saga. i have to make a horrible desicion to make. read what you have put on the internet or wait and see if you publish it. i really want to read it but i will respect ur wishes and not read it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE publish ur book. look at all of these loyal fans (even though some of them need to shut the **** up cuz shes a great writter.) we all really want to read this book. you shouldnt let one stupid *** person **** up the book for everyone one esle. take some time and shake off what happened and then continue writting. if you think that it wont sell cuz it’s already out your soooooooooo wrong, i know 150 people (including me) that will buy it. it will be a HUGE success.

Personally, I am actually disappointed in Stephenie Meyer,to tell the truth. I do understand that this leak was in violation of her rights, and that she is probably feeling very betrayed at this point. But what I don’t understand, is why she is halting the publication? I mean, she has millions of fans standing behind her, supporting her, and believing in her. We’re all behind her, so I just don’t get the hiatus. As a popular author, I think Stepenie Meyer should have been forewarned of people that were likely to betray her. I mean, it happened with J.K Rowling, and other famous authors, I don’t see why they weren’t expecting something like this to happen. Maybe then, she wouldn’t have trusted the person she did? Oh well, can’t be helped now….
I read the draft that she released on her website, and I loved it! It was amazing, far better than Twilight, I thought! She’s got my full support already for Midnight Sun. And I thought the draft was perfect! So, I guess I’m not getting why she’s not going to continue writing for awhile?
But in the end, I think the fans are being victimized as well, for what that person did. Grrrrr…. If us fans just got a hold of that person who leaked it…. haha….
I do hope, though, that Stephenie Meyer will continue to write soon… not just for us fans, but seriously for her too. I’m sure this betrayal has hurt her, but I think that by continuing to write it’ll be like a slap in the face for the person that leaked it! Like a “I don’t care what you did, cause my fans and family are still behind me, and I’m successful, even though you did this!” That kind of thing.

I am a huge fan. I started the series to keep up with my 14 year old daughter and her friends. I wound up finished before them. I just couldn’t put it down. Is there any way to get a printable version of Midnight Sun. I don’t think I could stare at a computer screen long enough to read it.

Reading Twilight in Edward’s version is beyond amazingly genius. Stephanie Meyer will get far with her series.
whatever. Meyer should just finish the book, not take the betrayal so personally. Its just evidence that people cannot seem to get enough of the entire Edward/Bella story, and would do anything to get it. Yes, it sux that someone actually would illegally post the draft online (how did they benefit from it?) but if she lets that stop her, then she’s letting that stupid someone win. She can beat this. Release Midnight Sun when it’s supposed to be, and let your fans love your Edward even more. JK Rowling didn’t let stuff like this keep her down. She still shared her beloved Harry with the world, as should Meyer share her Edward. This is nothing. Things can always be worse, and it WILL be worse, if she never releases the full story.

Breaking Dawn WAS a huge disapointment, so I can see why leaking a draft would be a great marketing device. However, Stephenie said that she wouldnt be publishing Midnight Sun anytime soon, so really nobody wins… she gets no money and we dont get to really understand Edwards perspective. Therefore, how can she tell people not to read the draft if it well may be the only thing people will get in quite some time?
I was VERY dissappointed when i read that stephanie is halting midnight sun, but as she herself posted it on her site i decided to read it. i am about 200 pages into it and im in love already. i really wish she would continue with it and publish it so that we could experience it as the full book.

I feel very upset over this, being a HUGE twilight fan, I was looking forward to this book! From Stephenie’s perspective, it must be hard, working on the book for months on end, only to have someone take it from her. It must have been horrible.
Anyway, I think that Stephenie should keep writing, and hopefully she will still publish Midnight Sun!
If this had happened without the backlash to Breaking Dawn, I’m pretty sure it would seem like a cut-and-dried case of internet piracy and an author’s reaction. I believe she was hurt by the person who leaked the draft, and because she knows it’s not her best work, she wanted to put the actual draft out there. I think it’s too bad that someone was willing to betray her in that way – especially as it seemed like she gave the draft to people in order to help with the characterization of Edward in the film. Of course, I think the whole backlash about BD is ridiculous anyway. If a reader doesn’t like the book, fine – say so. But to act as if you have been personally betrayed by the author is just over-the-top. And threatening to return the book because it didn’t end the way you wanted? Meh. If I returned books simply because I didn’t like them, I’d probably only keep half the books I buy.
