Weekly Geeks | Storytelling
This week’s challenge:
Guten Tag, Weekly Geeks! This week’s theme was suggested by Renay. She says, “I thought it would be cool to ask people to talk about other forms of story-telling.”
I’ve missed the last couple of challenges as they required me to stop and think – I gave myself the excuse that I was too busy – when in actual fact I was just too lazy to think!
So this week I decided that I would take part however taxing the challenge… I wasn’t sure where to go with this one – Becky has shared her thoughts on Stargate so I thought about writing about my favourite tv show, then I considered the lyrics of a great song – and then I wrote the title of the post and it hit me… what is the form of storytelling that I partake in as my other hobby? Digital Scrapbooking! Heck I even call my site Storytelling so this one should fit.
So why do I digi-scrap?
I stumbled upon it quite by accident a few years ago, probably via twopeasinabucket.com. My first major project was a photo album of scrapped pages of our vow renewal ceremony as a birthday gift for my mother-in-law. Since then I have made four more books (mostly of our Disney vacations) and am currently working on an album of our wedding photographs.
I use Photoshop CS3 and treated myself to a 24″ iMac for my birthday last year so that I can actually see what I’m working on!
I’ve always been a big fan of photographs – and since I got my first digital camera will quite happily take hundreds if not thousands of photos while on holiday. Printing them out and sticking them in a photo album just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore! I like to take a photo and tell the story behind it, using scrapping elements and journalling. I have such a bad memory that in the space of a few years a photograph on its own will mean nothing to me – I need a way to remember the story.
I’m pretty much self-taught although I have taken a couple of classes at jessicasprague.com which I can highly recommend. I like to look back over my pages and see how my design and storytelling skills have grown over the years.
This last Christmas I made some 12×12 pages as gifts for my family and had them framed – they looked great and went down a storm.
Here’s some examples of my favourite pages:

If you’re a fellow digi-scrapper I’d love to see some of your pages – pop a link to your gallery in the comments below.

@all – thanks for the kind words everyone *blush*
I have tried paper scrapping but I’m just not cut out for it – and I have such envy for those who can make paper layouts look beautiful – for me the undo button in photshop is often my saviour *lol*
@Kerry & @Jackie – great pages! Thanks for sharing
…To remind us of what life was like as we lived it…
What a beautiful sentiment. It reflects the detail and care in your work. I especially like “Hand Blessing” Thanks for sharing.
Also – thanks for the tip about Google Reader…
Wow, those are lovely. I need a new hobby like I need a hole in the head, but this one looks awfully tempting…
